  • Darwin was Madison's first permanent white resident
  • Hired to come to Madison to help erect the Capitol Building. The rainy journey took ten days over roadless prairie. Near Madison the sun broke through the clouds; Clark named the spot Sun Prairie
  • Acting mayor in 1860
  • Helped build Grace Episcopal Church
  • Helped select & name Forest Hill, served many years on the Forest Hill Committee
  • Marker says "Pioneer June 10, 1837"
