In 1894, after his mother's death, Robert Sr. wanted his parents to be buried together. He had his father,
Josiah La Follette, disinterred and brought to Madison
and reburied at Forest Hill (the grave is in this lot but is unmarked).
The
coffin had disintegrated and La Follette reached in and took his father's skeleton out of the coffin with his own two hands.
With his friend
Dr. Cornelius Harper, he laid the
bones out on the ground and studied them for several hours before burying them.
