Camp Randall Arch
When a drawing of the proposed memorial archway that would commemorate Camp Randall appeared in the State Journal on Nov. 22, 1911, the headline
above it read: "Stop It." The complaints focused on the non-artistic feel of the arch. The Woodbury Granite Company had seen a newspaper ad asking
for bids on the project, and had been given the job of designing the monument and supplying the stone, and as the company made tombstones, well,
it was what it was. Though the work was halted while artists reviewed the project for months, and help was given by a local architect, it eventually
was dedicated in June 1912. The veterans honored and photographed under the arch seemed to like it just fine, newspaper reports said.
