1949 – Madison, WI
May be Madison's most notorious murder case ever, the shooting of Sadie Jackson by her lover, Butch King, in front of the
Norris Court Grocery.
Sadie kept a diary of her active love life and the names of many prominent Madison men were in it.
The brutal daylight shooting had appalled the city. The jury found King not guilty by reason of insanity. The Capital Times
ran an outraged front-page editorial calling the verdicta travesty. King served three months and walked out of the Central
State Hospital in Waupun on September 25.
